Why is Emotional Competence Important?
Distinct from cognitive competence or IQ, Emotional Competence refers to our capacity to perceive, generate, and manage emotions in ourselves and others. As confirmed by independent academic research, Emotional Competence has been identified as the single most important determinant of superior functioning; and one-quarter to nearly one-half of all job success can be attributed to Emotional Competence.

Assessing Emotional Competence using the EQ-i 2.0 can make a decisive contribution to effective workforce selection and development. The EQ-i 2.0 delivers better performing individuals and organisations, significant cost savings, and a clear competitive advantage

The Emotional Quotient-Inventory
The EQ-i® is the first scientifically validated and most widely used Emotional Competence assessment in the world. Respondents self-report on their life and workplace performance in 15 key areas of emotional skill that have been proven to contribute to proficiency in complex business activities such as conflict resolution and planning.

The EQ-i 2.0 is built on BarOn EQ-i®; the first scientifically validated and most widely used Emotional Competence assessment in the world. The BarOn EQ-i® is the result of 20 years of Dr. Bar-On’s research on emotional competence. His research has crossed borders into eleven countries in an effort to develop a cross-cultural approach to describing and assessing emotional competence.

The EQ-i 2.0 Model
The 1-5-15 factor structure: this is a particular structural set-up, based on the Bar-On (1997) model of EI, that EQ-i users have always found easy to use and have become accustomed to. The EQ-i 2.0 features one overarching EI score, broken down into five composite scores which, in turn, are broken down into a total of 15 subscales. While, in the earlier version, individual items loaded on multiple subscales, in the new EQ-i 2.0, items only load on one subscale.

Employee Development
The EQ-i 2.0 measures the interaction between a person and the environment he/she operates in. Assessing and evaluating an individual's emotional competence can help establish the need for targeted development programmes and measures. This, in turn, can lead to dramatic increases in the person's performance, interaction with others and leadership potential. The development potentials the EQ-i 2.0 identifies, along with the targeted strategies it provides, make it a highly effective employee development tool.

Recruitment and Retention
The EQ-i 2.0 is versatile in workplace environments and can be used as a screening tool in hiring, leading to the selection of emotionally competent, emotionally healthy, and the most likely successful employees. Supplemented by other sources of information, such as interviews, the EQ-i 2.0 can make the recruitment and selection process more reliable and efficient.

The Emotional Quotient - 360
The EQ-360 is a multi-rater version of the EQ-i 2.0. The EQ-360 assessment provides a more in-depth analysis by having those who work with the individual provide information along with his/her own responses. When observer ratings are compared with the results of an EQ-i 2.0 self-report, a more complete 360 degree profile emerges. The EQ-360 identifies key employee strengths that can be leveraged to the benefit of the organisation, as well as impediments to high performance that could be improved. As with the EQ-i 2.0, the new EQ 360 features significant changes based on data and feedback gathered over several years.
